Bowlers as Key Players in Tournaments
New Delhi, April 27: Shahrukh Khan, a batter for the Gujarat Titans (GT), has expressed his belief that bowlers play a pivotal role in securing tournament victories.
He stressed the necessity of taking wickets to limit the opposing team's score, thereby providing batsmen with better scoring opportunities. This strategy applies to both innings of a match.
“Bowlers are essential for winning tournaments. You need to take 10 wickets to ensure the other team is kept to a manageable total, allowing batsmen to score effectively. This principle holds true in both innings,” Shahrukh Khan stated during a pre-match press conference.
Khan also acknowledged the vital performances of the top three batsmen—Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill, and Jos Buttler—who significantly ease the burden on the middle order.
He emphasized the importance of the middle order understanding their roles and adapting to various match situations. Despite limited game time, he noted that players have been diligently practicing to hone their skills.
“The top three [Sai, Shubman, and Buttler] are contributing significantly to the scoring. Honestly, their performance alleviates a lot of pressure from the middle order. It’s crucial to recognize the situation and respond accordingly. While some of us in the middle order haven’t had much game time, we’ve compensated for that with extensive practice. We have excellent facilities at home to ensure we keep our skills sharp,” he added.
The Gujarat Titans are set to face the Rajasthan Royals in the 47th match of the Indian Premier League on Monday, April 27, at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
Currently, the Gujarat Titans are leading the standings with six wins and two losses from eight matches. They recently defeated the Kolkata Knight Riders by 39 runs and are keen to continue their strong performance.
Conversely, the Rajasthan Royals sit in ninth place on the points table, having won only two out of nine matches, with five consecutive losses. Their latest match ended in defeat against the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
